Canada Collaborates With France On Nano-Crystalline Cellulose Research
by Trevor J. Murphy on Nov 19th, 2010
Scientists in Canada and France are working together to develop new applications for nano-crystalline cellulose, according to a new article published in Pulp and Paper Canada. Nano-crystalline cellulose (NCC) is the isolated molecular structure of cellulose – the main component of the cell walls or trees and other plants. NCC can be added to many products such as paper and film to improve its durability, strength and appearance. NCC is als...Read More » Tags

by Trevor J. Murphy on Nov 15th, 2010
In a previous article, we told you a little about the history of the Thurso pulp mill. This article provides you with some more information about the facility, including some technical specs for the Western Quebec mill. The recent arrival of large digesters floating down the Ottawa River was a sign that the conversion process at Thurso’s pulp mill was about to get underway. The digesters are key components to the transformation of pulp i...Read More » Tags

More Photos Of The Dissolving Pulp Equipment Arriving In Thurso
by Trevor J. Murphy on Nov 3rd, 2010
Two weeks ago, we wrote about two large digesters arriving in Thurso by barge after a near two-month trek from Finland. The digesters will be installed at Fortress Paper's Thurso pulp mill, and will be key to converting the mill from a northern bleached hardwood kraft pulp producer to a specialized dissolving pulp producer. The digesters, in which wood pulp is cooked and compartmentalized into cellulose, are a key element in the process of ...Read More » Tags
